VOL 31: SUPERBOWL JORDANS, PALACE & $850 CROCS

Welcome to Cool Pants. Here are 3 things that happened in streetwear this week:

1. JT’S HALFTIME JORDAN COMMERCIAL

Did you watch the SuperBowl last night? More importantly, did you catch the halftime show? Well here’s something you may have missed. Justin Timberlake just made a whole lot of money by dancing around in his new Jordan III collab. You see. The pop star used the stage to launch his new kick, which went available for purchase at the end of the show, and sold out in moments. Slick move JT. Check the whole story at the link HERE.

2. PALACE’S FULL SPRING 2018 COLLECTION

From across the pond. European streetwear force, PALACE has released their full lineup of pieces for Spring 2018. This is one of my favourite brands so I’m feeling quite a few items here. Especially this jacket. I committed to a ski trip next month and I’m more interested in flexing with a proper chair-lift fit than skiing ... so I made have to cop. Check the whole lineup HERE.

3. BALENCIAGA’S $850 CROC PLATFORMS

I know this is ridiculous and you’re wondering why I’m covering this...but these sold out in minutes and I’m simply searching for answers. Balenciaga, a high-end luxury fashion house dropped this $850 platform rendition of Crocs this week at Barneys, another high-end retailer in NY. Fashion parody may have gone too far with these...or not? Who knows. Fuck it. I can’t wait to see people taking shots for the gram with these. Check em out below.

VOL 30: GRAMMY KICKS, NEW CHAMPION & FALL OUT BOY?

Welcome to Cool Pants. Here are 3 things that happened in streetwear this week:

1. SNEAKERHEADS AT THE GRAMMYS

So I watched the Grammy’s last night...well I fell asleep near the end because it’s like 8 hours long...but I watched most of it. Do I have any opinions on the results? Not really... but I did appreciate the strong sneaker game at the 60th annual event. Bruno Mars brought his A-game featuring an array of sough after kicks including Sean Wotherspoon’s Air Max 97’s and a few selections from that Virgil Abloh x Nike’s collab. To see all the sneaker heat at this years Grammy’s, check the link here. (Photo credit: Theo Wargo)

2. NEW CHAMPION

Champion is back with more gear. Whether you think Chance brought this brand back or not (Chance the Rapper that is, he claims he brought the brand back in style) it looks like they are here to stay. I for one am cool with it. They make good shit. Check the link HERE to check out the new new.

3. FALL OUT BOY’S PETE WENTZ IS A SNEAKERHEAD

So I learned a few things today. First is that Fall Out Boy is still making music... and second, Fall Out Boy’s lead singer likes to drop racks on sneakers. Who knew. Wentz took to Complex’s show Sneaker Shopping to talk all things hype; even dishing that he owns a coveted pair of KAWs x Jordan IVs (To translate, that’s a rare sneaker retailing at about $2,000). Anyways. If your into re-living your angsty teen years, or you just like watching people spend your rent on shoes, check the video below.

VOL 29: COMME DES GARCONS, FEAR OF GOD & VINCE STAPLES

Welcome to Cool Pants. Here are 3 things that happened in streetwear this week:

1. COMME DES GARCONS x BASQUIAT

Comme Des Garcons’ Shirt took to Paris this week to drop their Fall/Winter 2018 collection. Eight of the pieces shown featured artwork from the legendary American artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat. Check my favourite piece above. You can see the rest of the offering at the link HERE.

2. FEAR OF GOD’S JERRY LORENZO

High Snobiety’s YouTube channel just dropped a very interesting interview with Fear of God owner Jerry Lorenzo. In it, he discusses the current landscape in streetwear and his advice for aspiring designers. Check it out the interview below.

3. VINCE STAPLES x CONVERSE

Coming off his latest release ‘Big Fish Theory’ back in June, Long Beach artist Vince Staples is back on the scene with a Converse sneaker collab. Grabbing inspiration from his latest album art, the sneakers were teased on his Instagram this week. No release date has been announced, but I’ll keep ya posted.

Don’t tap the glass.

VOL 28: ALEXANDER WANG, ADIDAS x PHARRELL & THE WEEKND

Welcome to Cool Pants. Here are 3 things that happened in streetwear this week:

1. ALEXANDER WANG CAPSULE

Alexander Wang has teamed up with the New York Post? Yep. The American-born designer has release a glimpse into his ‘gossip’ inspired collection in association with the  infamous column ‘Page Six’. The pieces feature all-over-print clipping of selected articles, like the one above, as well as more minimalistic items featuring the classic ‘Page Six’ logo. check out the whole collection HERE

2. ADIDAS x PHARRELL

Fashion...music...everything icon, Pharrell is back with another Adidas sneaker collab. The artist’s ‘Human Race’ line of kicks have been a hot commodity for sneakerheads over the last few years, and this drop is garnering the same type of attention. Using the popular NMD silhouette, this shoe is set to drop February 23rd. For a closer look, check the HERE.

3. THE WEEKND MERCH

Merch is how artists make their money now. Luck for us,  many artists have really stepped up their merch-game. The Weeknd is a great example of that. After a successful run of gear earlier in 2017, the Canadian-born musician is back with another limited edition drop. You have exactly 96 hours to cop before it’s all gone. Cop HERE.

VOL 27: LIAM HODGES, NEW GOSHA & BAPE x STARTER

Welcome to Cool Pants. Here are 3 things that happened in streetwear this week:

1. LIAM HODGES SS18

Ok. Jumping away from streetwear into menswear for a quick second. UK-based designer Liam Hodges dropped a much anticipated Spring/Summer 2018 line this week. Lots of smiley faces, lots of patterns. If your looking to check out something a bit more experimental, have a look at the photos of the runway show HERE.

VOL 26: FOG x JAY-Z, NEW ADIDAS & VETEMENTS SS18

Welcome to Cool Pants. Here are 3 things that happened in streetwear this week:

1. FEAR OF GOD DROPS 4:44 MERCH

US-based brand FEAR OF GOD has collaborated with hip-hop legend JAY-Z for their latest drop. Most garments follow a black & white scheme, with just about every piece styled with jean and leather...and bible quotes...from John 4:44. Thats all well and good, but my personal favourite piece is the one in the picture below. The big format text down each sleeve. IS NICE. If you’re interested in more info, hit the link here.

2. NEW ADIDAS: THE KAMANDA

ADIDAS is looking to keep their momentum going with an early 2018 drop of a brand new look...the KAMANDA. Now details are kind of sparse on the official drop date of these, but it looks like the company is making a real push for this silhouette to be big in 2018. What do you think? Check out more info at the link here.

3. VETEMENTS FULL SS18 DROP

The fashion calendar moves fast. VETEMENTS has now released their full lineup for Spring/Summer 2018. Honestly, there is such variation from piece to piece it’s hard to summarize the drop in just a paragraph. Below is my personal favourite item, only because Umbro is a wildly nostalgic brand for me. Anyone else remember that logo being on every soccer jersey you ever wore as a kid? Anyways, the whole collection is pretty dope. Check it out at the link here

VOL 25: TROUBLE ANDREW, NEW ANTI-SOCIAL & BALENCIAGA

Welcome to Cool Pants. Here are 3 things that happened in streetwear this week:

1. TROUBLE ANDREW x CAM’RON x REEBOK

There was a lot of sneaker news this week, but I had to go with a story from the home-team. Nova Scotian born artist TROUBLE ANDREW just dropped a collaboration with Reebok and brought in hip hop legend CAM’RON to help launch it. The official release of the 3:AM collection happened last week in NYC complete with a short-film and a set from the legendary DJ Clark Kent. Just another step for the GUCCI GHOST. Check out more info at the link here.

2. ANTI SOCIAL SOCIAL CLUB x RIMOWA COLLAB

American brand ANTI SOCIAL SOCIAL CLUB are back with a new collab, this time with RIMOWA...a German luggage company. We’ve only seen a teaser of clothing thus far, but I think it’s safe to say if your looking to take your hypebeast antics mile-high, stay tuned. I think some anti-social luggage is on its way. Link to more info here.

3. BALENCIAGA IS BACK

Luxury Fashion House BALENCIAGA is back with new gear inspired by a German supermarket. So who has the connect for this BZLY x Sobeys collab? Nobody? Alright fine I’ll just keep drawing my logo on their egg cartons. Link here for more on the latest BALENCIAGA gear.

VOL 24: NEW YEEZY DROP, MAHERSHALA ALI & KITH x MONCLER

Welcome to Cool Pants. Here are 3 things that happened in streetwear this week:

1. NEW YEEZY POWERPHASES

Kanye is back again. This time with a new iteration of his ‘Powerphase’ kick. The initial drop of this shoe was all-white, now we are seeing the gray version. I dunno. There’s not much more to say. These will definitely sell out on the first day, and definitely have a gross re-sell price. All that being said, if you’re looking to cop, check here

Yeezy Powerphase Gray

2. MAHERSHALA ALI GOES SNEAKER SHOPPING

Actor Mahershala Ali was on Complex’s show ‘Sneaker Shopping’ this week. I don’t know what it is about watching other people spend thousands of dollars  on sneakers, but it’s satisfying. Check out the 10 minute interview/shopping spree below.

3. KITH x MONCLER COLLAB

American brand KITH and French giant Moncler have teamed up for a 36-piece collab. The red, white & blue colour-way featured in nearly every piece is significant in the fact that it represents both their countries of origin; America & France. Check out the whole line here. All items go on sale this week.

Each item plays off of the artwork from Cudi’s latest full length release, ‘Passion Pain & Demon Slayin’... featuring purple and black textures and large format text. 2. KAWS DROPS THE BLUEPRINT

Multi-disciplinary artist KAWS did an amazing interview with Complex’s show ‘The Blueprint’ this week. For anyone  looking for some motivation on this lovely Sunday, look no further. Check it out below.

3. GOLDEN JORDANS

GOLLLLLD. They call it ... the “Top 3 Gold”. The latest release from Jordan brand. A new colour-way on the classic Jordan I model. This sneaker features a patent leather build with that classic colour-blocked layout. Unfortunately, the closest these are coming to the Maritimes for retail $$$ is Toronto, available at Capsule and Livestock. Check the link HERE for more info.
